Position Summary
The Director, Market Access Marketing will lead the development and execution of integrated access strategies to optimize coverage, reimbursement, and patient access across all payer segments.
This role requires a strategic thinker and hands-on operator who can translate complex market dynamics into clear, actionable plans—and execute with speed and precision. The ideal candidate thrives in an agile, launch-oriented environment, demonstrates strong independent judgment, and effectively leads cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
Reporting to the Head of Marketing, this individual will serve as the central connector across Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Medical, and Patient Services to ensure access strategy is fully integrated into brand execution and delivers measurable business impact.
Key Responsibilities
Access Strategy Leadership & Execution
- Lead development of comprehensive market access strategy across payer, provider, and patient segments, with clear execution plans and defined success metrics
- Translate business objectives into differentiated value propositions tailored to payers, HCPs, GPOs, and health systems
- Apply segmentation, scenario planning, and trade-off decisions to prioritize investments and maximize access impact
- Continuously assess and adapt strategy based on evolving payer dynamics, competitive landscape, and market insights
- Serve as the strategic and operational bridge across National Accounts, GPO, Field Access, Sales, Patient Services, Medical, and Channel teams
- Lead cross-functional alignment to ensure access strategy is embedded across all customer touchpoints and execution channels
- Influence without authority—driving clarity, accountability, and forward momentum across stakeholders
- Partner closely with field teams to ensure access strategy translates into effective pull-through and field execution
Customer-Facing Strategy & Content Ownership
- Own development of all market access customer-facing materials and communications (payer, HCP, GPO, field access, patient support)
- Ensure messaging is clear, differentiated, and aligned to value drivers and reimbursement realities
- Lead content through Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR) review with strong command of compliance requirements
- Build tools and resources that enable field teams to effectively communicate coverage, access, and patient support offerings
Payer Engagement & Access Pull-Through
- Develop and execute payer engagement strategies, including advisory boards, market research, and targeted initiatives
- Drive pull-through strategies that translate coverage decisions into real-world utilization and patient access
- Support development of business cases and value narratives to inform access opportunities and trade-offs
- Monitor and communicate coverage, policy changes, and reimbursement dynamics to inform strategy and field execution
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Lead planning, execution, and performance tracking of key access initiatives with clear KPIs and accountability
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve processes, tools, and execution speed
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment with competing priorities and tight timelines
- Bring forward solutions and recommendations—demonstrating ownership, initiative, and problem-solving mindset
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD) preferred
- 8+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience, including direct Market Access Marketing experience (required)
- Demonstrated ability to own and lead access strategy and execution independently in a complex, cross-functional environment
- Deep understanding of payer landscape, reimbursement dynamics, patient services, and access barriers (e.g., step edits, prior authorizations, hubs)
- Experience in oncology and/or specialty markets with access complexity strongly preferred
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and development of customer-facing materials
The expected base salary range for this position is $184,620 to $239,700. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education and geographical location. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates are eligible for short-term and long-term incentives.
