This position supports our approved product BESREMi® (ropeginterferon alfa-2b) in polycythemia vera (PV) as well as our investigational pipeline programs in essential thrombocythemia (ET) and myelofibrosis (MF). The Director will collaborate across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Market Access, and Commercial functions.
The expected salary range for this position based on greater Boston, MA location is $235,000-260,000. Actual salary pay will be based on multiple factors, including geographic location, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Position Overview
The Director, Medical Information and HEOR is a key member of PharmaEssentia’s Medical Affairs team responsible for three complementary functions: (1) medical information strategy and operations, (2) review and evaluation of continuing medical education (CME) opportunities, and (3) US health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) strategy with an emphasis on payer and access stakeholder communication.A defining feature of this role is the ability to translate clinical and health economic evidence into clear, compelling narratives for payer and managed care audiences. Key Responsibilities
1. Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR)
Lead the US HEOR function with a strong emphasis on generating and communicating evidence that supports payer decision-making and market access for BESREMi across approved and pipeline indications.- Develop and execute the comprehensive US HEOR strategy in alignment with US and global medical strategy, including evidence generation planning and payer/access stakeholder engagement.
- Design and execute HEOR modeling activities, including budget impact models, cost-effectiveness analyses, and outcomes analyses using claims data, patient-reported outcomes, and real-world evidence.
- Drive HEOR evidence generation projects from planning through completion: develop research plans, protocols, and budgets; conduct or oversee analyses; and prepare reports, abstracts, and manuscripts in collaboration with cross-functional teams, external vendors, and academic experts.
- Develop field-based, customer-focused HEOR deliverables for payer and access stakeholders, including health economic models, formulary and regulatory dossiers, value communication materials, and scientific slide kits.
- Serve as the primary Medical Affairs point of contact for HEOR-related payer and managed care interactions, translating clinical trial data and real-world evidence into actionable value narratives.
- Represent PharmaEssentia at HEOR-focused external meetings and forums, including ISPOR and relevant hematology/oncology payer conferences.
- Collaborate with Market Access and Commercial to shape brand and access strategy using HEOR evidence; help influence Phase IV clinical trial design to include value-based endpoints and health economic measures.
- Continually educate the organization on developments in HEOR as they relate to evidence-based medicine, health technology assessment, and US reimbursement policies.
2. Medical Information
Own the medical information function, ensuring healthcare professionals, patients, and internal stakeholders have access to accurate, balanced, and compliant medical content.- Develop and maintain medical information resources, including standard response letters for unsolicited medical information requests and medical content on the corporate website.
- Oversee the Medical Information Call Center vendor, including performance monitoring, activity reconciliation, and invoice approval.
- Represent PEC as the medical information lead at medical information congress booths.
- Ensure all medical information content undergoes appropriate medical content approval review and is maintained within the approved content management system.
- Track and analyze trends in medical information inquiries to identify emerging clinical questions, knowledge gaps, and potential signal detection insights; share findings with Medical Affairs leadership.
3. Continuing Medical Education (CME) Review
Serve as the Medical Affairs lead for evaluating and supporting independent medical education opportunities.- Review inbound CME grant requests and independent medical education (IME) proposals; assess scientific merit, alignment with identified knowledge gaps, and compliance with applicable regulations and PEC policies.
- Collaborate with the Grants and Medical Affairs leadership to prioritize CME/IME investments based on therapeutic area needs, unmet education gaps, and strategic alignment.
- Monitor funded CME programs for scientific rigor, fair balance, and adherence to ACCME/AMA standards.
- Track and report on CME landscape trends in PV, ET, and MPN to inform the medical education strategy.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Scientific Communication
Partner across functions to ensure HEOR evidence, medical information, and CME activities are integrated into the broader medical and commercial strategy.- Collaborate with the Medical Affairs publications team to align HEOR evidence generation with the publication strategy and ensure timely dissemination of health economic findings.
- Partner with Clinical Development to incorporate appropriate value endpoints and health economic measures into ongoing and planned clinical studies.
- Support MSL team training on HEOR data, value messaging, and payer-relevant scientific content.
- Manage day-to-day interactions with HEOR vendors, medical information vendors, and CME partners; participate in vendor selection activities.
- Manage direct reports as the function scales.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degree required (PhD, PharmD, or MD/DO).
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, a managed care organization, an HEOR research consultancy, or an academic setting.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing HEOR modeling activities (budget impact, cost-effectiveness) and outcomes analyses (claims-based, patient-reported outcomes, real-world evidence).
- Strong scientific communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex health economic and clinical data to payer, managed care, and health system audiences in a clear, credible, and persuasive manner.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of US data sources, payer claims databases, and the US healthcare reimbursement and coverage landscape.
- Experience in hematology, oncology, or a related therapeutic area is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of medical information operations, including call center oversight and standard response letter development.
- Familiarity with CME/IME grant review processes and ACCME standards.
- Demonstrated experience conducting or interpreting statistical analyses; excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills.
- Experience managing external vendors, HEOR consultancies, and agency partners.
- Understanding of clinical trial research, the drug development process, and GCP requirements.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases such as PubMed.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a field-based HEOR or outcomes liaison role with direct payer engagement.
- Experience with NCCN guideline processes and health technology assessment submissions.
- Track record of HEOR publications in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at ISPOR, ASH, or EHA.
- Experience working with rare disease or specialty pharmacy products.
- Familiarity with Veeva CRM and medical affairs operational systems.
